Over the past 30 years, we have been waiting for the financial industry to change.
After 20 years of coaching women advisors, I've learned that we can’t wait for the industry to change because WE, as WOMEN, are the change.
As women, we must have the courage to carve out a new approach to building a successful business while serving clients ethically. The more we as women support each other, embrace our strengths and encourage each other to create our own path to success that’s when the change will happen.
In realizing this, I've distilled five words of wisdom from my two decades of coaching women advisors:
1. Recognize the industry was not designed with women in mind.
Men built the industry to help male advisors attract male clients; it is up to us as women to create a more feminine approach to attracting and serving clients (many of whom are now women)
2. Resist the pressure to conform.
Women must have the courage to resist the pressure to adapt to this male model, when something makes you cringe or just doesn’t feel right trust your instincts and find another way.
3. Own your strengths as a woman.
Women bring much-needed strengths to an industry drowning in testosterone; clients are craving what you bring to the table, a softer more authentic style for serving clients.
4. Carve your own path to success.
Have the confidence to follow your heart, listen to your mind, and trust your unique abilities regardless of the naysayers. Be willing to push back and do what works best for you.
5. Your Success is what you want it to be.
Don’t assume numbers are the only measurement of success. Be crystal clear about what you want out of this life and career, and make it happen. When you live and act based on your own priorities, success will follow.
